Jasmine Restaurant, LLC celebrated its grand opening at 2717 Broadway, Schenectady with a ribbon cutting hosted by The Chamber of Schenectady County on April 23, 2013. The ribbon cutting was sponsored by McNamee, Lochner, Titus & Williams, PC.
Jasmine Restaurant owner Nittaya Raksa previously owned a sewing shop in Albany, designing wedding gowns and performing alterations and other custom work. Her husband, Thanatchai, owned a fruit company in Thailand before his life changed unexpectedly and his talent of cooking became his means of survival. During this time, he nurtured a dream of opening a Thai restaurant. Eventually, his passion became Nittaya’s as well.
After spending 15 years in the United States, Nittaya had visited many local Thai restaurants but did not feel any truly represented the authentic taste and flavor of her native land. As Thailand is known as “the land of smiles,” she built upon that theme in designing the restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere, authentic Thai cooking, soft Thai music and excellent service.
Jasmine offers amazing fresh entrees at a great value. It offers true ethnic Thai cooking with accents like lemongrass, lime, coconut, ginger, galangal, Thai curry paste and fresh basil leaves. Jasmine offers house specialties and daily features cooked to perfection with seafood choices ranging from salmon to red snapper and fowl choices ranging from chicken to duck. The restaurant also specializes in noodles, soups, salads and delicately spiced coconut curries.
Nittaya chose Schenectady County for her restaurant’s location because of the City’s manufacturing history as well as its resurgence in job growth. She believes Schenectady’s rich history and diverse population will welcome the authentic Thai experience, and she has faith that she chose the best location.
